How to clear browser cache

Running out of disk space? Can't stop your browser from loading an out-of-date page or an image? Your browser taking longer to exit? Your favorite Java applet is misbehaving?

One of the answers to all of the above questions may be to clear your browser's cache. Almost all web browsers maintain a local copy of web pages and other related items on your disk or memory to speedup reloading of previously visited pages from the Internet. This time saver may get bigger and slower over long periods of time. If this is causing problems, try clearing your browser cache as follows.

TIP: Although it's not required by all browsers, restarting your browser after clearing the cache is a good idea. If you're using Explorer 4.x or Explorer 5.x it's better to restart the computer as well.

• Navigator 3.x:

* Select "Options | Network Preferences..." from the main menu
* Change to the "Cache" tab
* Click on "Clear Memory Cache Now" and "Clear Disk Cache Now" buttons to clear memory and disk cache

• Communicator 4.x:

* Select "Edit | Preferences..." from the main menu
* Change to the "Advanced | Cache" section
* Click on "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache" buttons to clear memory and disk cache

TIP: Navigator 3.x and Communicator 4.x users: If you're often having to reload frequently updated pages, you may want to take this chance to set "Verify Documents" option to "Every Time." This will make the browser retreive the latest copy of a web page even if it's in the cache.

• Explorer 3.x:

* Select "View | Options..." from the main menu
* Change to the "Advanced" tab
* Click on "Settings" button
* Click on "Empty Folder..."

TIP: If you're running out of hard disk space, you could reduce percent of disk space used by Explorer 3.x for its cache by sliding the "Amount of disk space to use" guage.

• Explorer 4.x:

* Select "View | Internet Options..." from the main menu
* Change to the "General" tab
* Click on "Delete Files" button

TIP: If you have Explorer 4.x Active Channel subscriptions, check "Delete all subscription content" to delete cached channel content as well.

• Explorer 5.x:

* Select "Tools | Internet Options..." from the main menu
* Change to the "General" tab
* Click on "Delete Files" button

TIP: If you have stored web pages for offline viewing, check "Delete all offline content"

• America Online 3.x (with Explorer 3.x):

* Select "Members | Preferences" from the main menu
* Click on the "WWW" button
* Click on "Advanced..."
* Click on "Purge Cache" to clear the cache

TIP: Be sure to check "Cache web pages and graphics locally" (which should be enabled by default) to speedup surfing.

• America Online 4.x:

* Select "My AOL | Preferences" from the main menu
* Click on the "WWW" button
* Change to the "General" tab
* Click on "Delete Files" button

TIP: If you have Explorer 4.x Active Channel subscriptions, check "Delete all subscription content" to delete cached channel content as well. If you have stored web pages for offline viewing, check "Delete all offline content"

How to delete a browser cookie 77

By munroenet

Well lets first get straight what a browser cookie is. Well when you go to a site or any other place on the web, even on hubpages a little cookie is deposited on your Hard drive. Then when you click on a add ,Let say cars then a cookie is deposited, then where ever you go the site reads that cookie and if it has adds it will probably put up car adds trying to get your attention and a sale. The problem come in were Bad cookie come in. These bad cookies follow you around marking were ever you go. They also can make your browser silently go to bad sites and download spy-ware. This causes your computer to slow down. After a long time all those cookies begin slowing down your PC by a chunk. However, you don't usually want to delete all of them because then when you come to hubpages or any other site that you had remember my password and user name will be deleted and you will have to re-login, Not re-make the account.

So how to get rid of Bad Cookies and other bad spy-ware. Well most spy-ware applications have built in cookie scanners but not all. I use Spy-ware Doctor which is great at removing those pesky bad cookies. If you wish to read a hub on Spy-ware doctor ((Click Here)). So that will usually get rid of bad cookies.

Now lets say you just want to get rid of all of them. OK, then you need to go to Tools and then Internet Options. Then you need to go to General Tab and then click delete all browsing history. You should get a prompt then click yes to delete all browsing history. That is for Internet Explorer. Now to FireFox go to tools Click "Clear Private Data" then check everything you want to delete then yes and if any prompts come up read it and do which ever one continues the deleting process.

Good luck.

Top 10 Tips While Downloading An Anti Spyware Software

Every one of us is aware of the fact that over 90 percent of consumer PCs are infected with spyware. So it is necessary to have an anti spyware software so that we could fight against the evils of the spyware attack.

Once you are ready to buy an anti spyware, there are many questions that pop up in our mind ranging from what, where, how related to anti spyware software. Every PC user should make a list of points before buying the anti spyware program.

The following tips are to be considered while buying the anti spyware software:

1. Spyware Detection:

This is the most important feature to be considered during the selection of an anti spyware software. One can aptly say that detection methods are the key quality indicators of the anti spyware program. The good news is that many of the anti spyware software developers are keen in supporting the drive scan, memory scans, and registry scans which will completely detect the spyware.

2. Quarantine & Recovery System:

It is good to have an anti spyware which has both quarantine and recovery system. A delete-on-reboot system for files that refuse to be get deleted during runtime could be an added advantage.

3. Adware, Spyware, Dialer, and Web Bug Scan:

The ideal anti spyware should scan your PC for different Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and Web Bug traces. It should identify the latest threats to your privacy.

4. PC Immunization:

The anti spyware software should prevent malicious components from ever adding themselves to your computer. It should immunize your PC and simply block the malicious programs in the future.

5. Configure Browser and PC Shields:

The anti spyware should configure various browser shields to further protect your computer when online. Moreover it should check the Protect IE Favorites box to ensure that no website can add their URL to your browser’s ‘Favorite List’. It should block dangerous ActiveX controls by setting ActiveX kill bits for known spyware.

6. Scheduler Option:

The scheduler option will be very helpful if you forget to scan manually so that it will check the possible adware / spyware infiltrations automatically.

7. Provision Of Free SCAN:

The ideal anti spyware software should provide a free scan so that it discloses the severity of the spyware even before it is bought. Please be cautious about the false positive scan results.

8. One Time Cost:

All most all anti spyware softwares charge a one-off purchase cost plus regular subscription renewal costs. So every year the average cost of a decent anti spyware software is around $30-$40. Instead of those recurring charges, I’m of the opinion that purchasing an anti spyware software which charges a one time fee and offering life time FREE upgrades will be the best option.

9. Excellent Customer Support:

The anti spyware software vendor should provide technical assistance round the clock 365 days.

10. Get From Reliable Source:

Download the anti spyware software only from the reliable source so that you do not fall prey for the spyware again.

Don’t Buy the Farmmext

Sometimes computers get infected with adware like Farmmext. It just happens. But you don’t have to let it happen to you anymore. There is a way to be free from all adware, spyware, and every other kind of malware. Read on and learn.

Farmmext is another adware program among the legions of other adware programs. In fact, it is another one of those programs that is brought to you courtesy of a larger malware bundle. The program brings Farmmext onto your computer and installs it. This is done without your permission.

Adware installing other adware programs is a pretty common occurrence and it is terrible for your computer. When Farmmext and all of the other malicious programs get on your computer, they cause it to slow down quite dramatically. This can be just as inconvenient as the other aspect of Farmmext.

Like I said, Farmmext is adware. Therefore, its job is to monitor your Internet activities, keep a record of them, and then Farmmext will deliver pop up ads to your desktop. These ads will be aimed specifically at the content that you have recently been viewing. This is thought to add to the success rate of the pop up ads because they will pertain to things that you like.

The reduction in your computer’s performance, as well as the undesirable pop up ads, is completely unacceptable. You need your computer to work in tip-top shape and the pop up ads are both annoying and distracting. Therefore, you need to remove Farmmext from your computer.

In order to do this safely and effectively, you need to download SpyZooka. If you have SpyZooka on your computer, then your computer has a wonderful line of defense. Spyware Prevention

I get questions all the time about preventing spyware infections. It is hard to narrow down where and how computers are getting infected, but I have a few known causes to warn you about.

#1. Limewire. You can download ANYTHING from the internet these days, but Limewire is probably the biggest cause of spyware infections out there. Yes, you don't have to pay for anything you download, but, there is always a chance that what you are downloading from Limewire is embedded with malicious software that is going to steal your personal data. iTunes is a safe and secure alternative that has pretty much everything you are looking for.

#2. Screen Savers. I know the built in Windows Screen Savers can be a little boring, but I haven't seen a screen saver that you download from the internet that doesn't have some kind of spyware program associated with it. Use the default Windows Screen Savers and save yourself a trip to me.

#3 MySpace Themes. MySpace has been around for a while, and people have figured out how to allow MySpace to upload custom themes for your page. Once again, I haven't found a MySpace theme page that isn't infected with spyware. Installing a theme for MySpace, other than the ones provided by MySpace has links embedded in it that takes you to websites that are Spyware related. Use the themes provided by Myspace. They are adding new ones all the time.

#4 This is a generalized category, and kind of along the same line as Screen Savers. Anything that you download to enhance the look of Windows can be a cause for getting a spyware infection. Cursors, Desktop Backgrounds, Screen Savers, etc, etc. If you want to change the look of your computer, like your background/wallpaper, use a picture that you have taken. Or once again, use the backgrounds, cursors, and screen savers provided with Windows.

I don't know how better to explain it other than taking your computer in to get it cleaned up is like having to take your car in to get your oil changed. I has to be done. It is hard to tell the difference between legitimate programs and spyware programs. They do that for a reason, to trick you into buying a fake product that doesn't do anything but cause more problems.

One other tip. Call and ask me before you buy something that popped up on your computer saying that you needed to buy this software to get rid of your spyware infections. 90% of the time, that program is going to be a spyware program itself and will only steal your credit card info.
